Are there enough hours in the day to blog?

If you’re a newcomer to the blogging world, chances are you probably have a day job. Most people do. Unless you’re lucky enough to be some kind of celebrity model, you work an hourly or salaried position at some company that is not your own. Those of you who work on commission can skip to the end of this article.

Because you’re working this hourly job, you are at the mercy of this company for 40 hours of the week. While you’re there, you’re theirs. Granted, they compensate you for your time and aside from one or two annoying co-workers, your life there is without incident.

Because you are giving this company so many hours of your month, you are losing out on time that you could be spending building your online empire. Imagine if you had spent even HALF of that time creating content for your websites. While this may not be practical in the beginning, before your sites begin to bring in any reasonable amount of income, when it becomes appropriate to quit your day job, you’ll know.

While this may sound like an intimidating amount of work, keep in mind that we’re chasing a certain lifestyle here. Eventually, the workload will be reduced to something more manageable. In theory, you could go at a slower pace in the beginning, but because the idea is to see results as quickly as possible, it is recommended that you work as hard as possible in the beginning.

This can add to the stress of having a day job. After all, unless you can find a way to create content while you’re at work, then you have a problem. While you may be earning an hourly wage, the amount of money you can earn from the Internet dwarfs that by comparison.

All in all, it takes between 50-70 pieces of content, submitted/bookmarked in various places, to establish a solid web presence. That being said, I’ve found that people generally give a sigh of relief when they hear that number, despite its size. Just knowing the workload involved takes away from the uncertainty of not knowing if you’re wasting your time.

You’re not! Every piece of content you create is another place to put an advertisement, another chance to make some money. Once you wrap your mind around this concept, you will view creating content as an enjoyable act as opposed to an act of labor.
