If you’re like most people who have tried blogging for money, you may be stuck at something of a dead end. You’ve read and researched so much, that you could talk until you’re blue in the face about general strategy, but when it comes to making money, you’ve got nothing to show for your time.

This is more common than you think. Most people are so worried about getting things “just right,” that they are afraid to do anything at all. It is as if they are afraid to invest any effort unless they know they will see results immediately.

One thing that is important to understand is that you will probably not make money from your first few websites. Assuming you have some experience, however, it is still not unusual to not be making any money from your sites.

But before you start scratching your head, answer these questions:

Have you written articles about your topic and submitted them to article directories?

Have you created peripheral sites (Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogger etc…) and linked to your site?

Have you socially bookmarked your sites?

Have you blogged about your sites?

Have you commented on other blogs?

Have you tweeted about your new posts?

If the answer is not “YES” to all of these questions, then you have some work to do. While you may feel like you have been working this whole time, unfortunately all we have to work with is measurable results. In this case, articles you’ve written or other media you’ve created.

Most of the time, this can be changed to fit various channels. With some creative editing, you can take those 5 articles and post them on ezines, your website, peripheral sites, turn them into forum posts/comments (link!), tweets, etc. There are so many ways to spin your content.

While I personally recommend creating only unique content, if you have a post you’re especially proud of, don’t be afraid to plaster that sucker all over the schoolyard!

Once you have a significant amount of material, let it trickle out slowly. Don’t be a maniac and post it all at once. Aside from the obvious benefit that Google tries to reward natural linking above all else, trickling out your information day by day will naturally saturate the Internet over a longer period of time.

Congratulations, you built a website!

So, you started a business.

You even picked a product or service to sell and advertised it on the site.

All you need now is TRAFFIC.

One very effective way is to use Twitter to get traffic. If you use it correctly, Twitter can be used as an excellent lead generation and list building tool.

Get ready, because I’m about to tell you the secret to getting traffic with Twitter: All you have to do is tweet more about your niche or industry.

For instance, if your niche was a site on internet marketing systems, you WOULD release tweets with your niche topics in them! Its that simple.

Because of its immediate nature, Twitter is often used (mistakenly) as a glorified status update mechanism.

How not to use Twitter

Face it, tweeting about the type of toast you had for breakfast today isn’t going to cause anyone a desire to check out your website.

For those of you who have a site dedicated to eating toast, ignore this. But for the REST OF YOU, keyword targeted tweets will work much better.

Ideally, you will have chosen a niche or industry in which you are active on a daily basis. By simply tweeting about what YOU are doing in your niche, you will get more followers and visitors to your site.

Oh, I might have forgotten to mention to include a link to your site in your tweets!

It goes without saying, but I forget sometimes that I was new to online marketing once.

“Me me me” vs “niche niche niche”

Anyway, back to the topic. I don’t mean to imply that you ONLY release tweets with links in them. If you do this, you might get the reputation of being a shameless self promoter as opposed to a respected authority.

Both strategies lead to more sales. And who knows, you might even get a referral! (Make sure you ask for it!)

What is better in the long run is anybody’s guess, but don’t feel like you can ONLY tweet about something if you’ve got a fresh link to post.

If you’re working on something in your niche, a set of articles or ebook for instance, I highly recommend that you tweet about it!

People in your niche want this information, so give it to them!
